Fellowships

The 13th European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB’14) will provide several travel fellowships to help students and postdocs presenting a poster or a paper to attend the conference.

Several organizations such as ISCB and SFBI support ECCB by granting fellowships. As a fellowship grantee, you will be communicated the source of support and you must acknowledge it in your presentation or poster. The award will depend on your geographical location. Your award letter will indicate the maximum amount that you can be reimbursed. Moreover, you will benefit of a reduction of your registration fee of 200€. Grantees may be requested to volunteer up to half a day during the conference.

Italian students and post-docs are advised that the Italian Society for Bioinformatics (BITS) is also proposing travel fellowship independently from ECCB'14. Next rolling deadline in June 15th. Please consult their call here !

ECCB'14 travel fellowships will pay for a partial contribution to lodging, conference registration and travel expenses. Affiliated expenses, such as evening meals, workshops, tutorials, late registration fees, and satellite meetings will not be eligible for reimbursement. The grant will be sent to the funded applicant after the ECCB’14 conference.

The conference organizers are committed to providing support to as many eligible applicants as possible. However, our funding sources are very limited and we regret that we are not able to fund all applicants. Applying for a fellowship does not guarantee that you will receive funding. If you require a travel fellowship to attend the conference, do not register before you have been notified that you have received an award.

 Key dates

  • Fellowship application open: June 3, 2014
  • Fellowship application deadline: July 8, 2014
  • Fellowship award notification: July 23, 2014
  • Registration deadline: August 1, 2014

Requirements

Applicants must be listed as an author or co-author on the original submission of an accepted ECCB'14 paper or poster.  The funded applicant must be the presenting author of the work, i.e. only one person will be considered per paper or poster; multiple authors applying with the same poster for a fellowship will not be considered.

Applicants must be registered in a degree program (undergraduate or graduate) or as a postdoctoral research fellow at an accredited university or college at the time of the conference. A signed letter from the Head of Department or a copy of the student card must be included in the application as evidence of their eligibility status.

Fellowship recipients must register for ECCB’14 before August 1, 2014 (as students or academics for post-docs). They will benefit from a 200 € discount on the registration fees (select D4 in the supplement list). Warning! Registration using this reduction is only possible after fellowship notification (scheduled July 23rd). If you register with this reduction before being notified you take the risk of having to repay the conference in case you would not be selected. Fellowship recipients must prove that they have attended ECCB’14 in order to receive their funding. At their arrival at the ECCB'14 registration desk in Strasbourg, they will be asked to present the same student card or the original letter of the Head of Department that was sent with the application.

Details of funding distribution will be included in acceptance letter.
